Say hello to the Tick Tock Timer

So my buddy over at Pun Intended, aka @BambooForest on Twitter, has launched a new site - sporting the best online timer on the net - and I thought I’d welcome it into the online world with a quick interview of the creator himself. Said interview follows, please enjoy…

HTM: Who are you, online? Where do you spend time sharing your gifts?

PI: I’m the heavy weight blogger of the world!

At my home base, Pun Intended, I blog on humor and inspiration, which is a killer mix. Recently I’ve started my second blog which I write solely on the subject of time and how it relates to who we are.

HTM: Give me the quick and dirty on what the Tick Tock Timer is.

PI: Tick Tock Timer, at its core, is whatever the hell you want it to be, damnit! Beyond that, however, it’s a site that has the best timer on the net. You’re invited to set the timer for the duration of time you choose, committing to working on something until it sounds.

The reason this productivity hack is so effective is because it makes the whole ordeal of doing something productive far less painful. You see… when you set the timer, committed to working for a chosen amount of time, the light at the end of the tunnel shines supremely bright.

Usually when we work, we haven’t agreed to a specific amount of time to commit ourselves. It’s all up in the air, which makes us antsy and invites distraction. Alternatively, when you set the timer, fully committed to working until it sounds, you don’t tolerate distractions. When the gong finally sounds, you feel like a million bucks. And most importantly, you got some important work done in a highly focused way.

HTM: Where, or from what, was the idea born for the site, and why did you feel compelled to bring it forth?

PI: I was filling out forms, which is something I hate more than getting my teeth drilled without Novocain. I broke down and rushed to the roof of my apartment where I screamed, “You can throw me in jail if you want to; I don’t give a damn! I’m not filling those stupid forms out anymore! Go ahead, arrest me, I want you to!”

After the outburst I waited for a police chopper to come and shine its strobe light on me. That never occurred. So instead of going to jail I decided I’d create a site with a timer that people could use to get themselves to work on something for a designated period of time. I knew this was the only way to get me to spend time doing things I can’t stand. And since no site with this emphasis existed, I made it my mission to put it on the net where it rightfully belongs.

HTM: Are there any other contributors to the site?

PI: Tons. It’s a community site, not some lonesome island on the interweb. There’s a section titled, What Have You Done?! where people are invited to share with the world what they’ve accomplished using the triple T. So as far as I’m concerned, everyone can contribute to the value of Tick Tock Timer. And I hope they do. Let’s Tick Tock this!

HTM: What is your idea of success as it concerns the site? In other words, at what point, or when what happens, will you say ‘Alright, I did it, the Tick Tock Timer has arrived.’

PI: One of my mottos is “Go big or go home.” And I can assure you I ain’t going home any time soon. In that case, I’ll feel Tick Tock Timer arrived when I have at minimum, 200,000 unique visitors a month and at least 10 entries in the “What Have You Done?!” section each day.

HTM: You have a very unique style, sense of humor…presence. Any particularly noteworthy influences that have shaped you?

PI: Not that I’m aware of. What I will say, however, is that people fascinate me. I love people watching and listening to what others have to say. I think my receptivity to seeing and hearing how others operate in this world has contributed to my sense of humor and insight. Because, you know, we’re all a bunch of weirdos at the end of the day.

HTM: What does the world according to Bamboo Forest look like? In other words, where would your vision take us, if we were willing/able to go?

PI: The world’s a reflection of who we are individually. I believe we all must step up to the challenge of life. We were put on this ball of spinning ice for a reason. And it wasn’t solely to see how much dinero we could attain or how many chocolate sundaes we could consume. I believe the world will change when each one of us views that change as personal responsibility. When we change our own character, the world changes. We have an impact on everyone we come in contact with and then those have an impact on everyone they come in contact with, and on it goes like a drop of water rippling throughout a pond. So, by working on our own character, how we conduct ourselves, we’re fulfilling our greatest service.

Don’t get me wrong. I believe in more direct ways of helping others such as through activism and charity. But if one’s doing that while ignoring their own character, I think a big piece of the picture’s being missed.

HTM: Any bold predictions for the remainder of this year? Either for you/your business, or the world at large?

PI: Tick Tock Timer will dip below 5,000 on alexa. Pun Intended will rise above 5,000 subscribers. And I will continue to make an effort to step up my game on all fronts.

So that’s it then. I’ve used the Tick Tock Timer myself and I have to admit, I felt a sense of energy and focus that isn’t usually with me. I’m not saying it’s magic, but I’m not saying it aint, either. :)

Tick Tock Timer is da bomb diggity. It’s gonna go viral like the plague, only instead of slowly eating your insides, it’s going make the world a more productive place.
